Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson recently presented the Tamworth Pistol Club on Daruka Rd, with a $20,000 grant under the NSW Safe Shooting Program.

Club president Phil Harris, in accepting the cheque, thanked Mr Anderson for his personal support of the club.

"Safety must always be the first priority of sporting shooter organisations, and this grant will ensure that what is already a good range complex, will be raised to national standard," he said.

Tamworth Pistol Club is one of the largest pistol clubs in regional New South Wales, with more than 345 members and 60 new members having joined in the last financial year alone.

It caters for a wide variety of pistol and rifle shooting disciplines, on seven separate shooting ranges, including an indoor air range and a 200-metre rifle range.

Mr Anderson said the club was "a significant part of the Tamworth sporting community".

"It is widely known as a safe and well controlled organisation that offers an excellent sport shooting venue to licensed shooters, from a great variety of backgrounds within our community," he said.

"I am pleased to be able to present this grant to the club, in the knowledge that it will be used to further ensure safety as the first priority of sport shooting in Tamworth."

The club will contribute an equal amount in funds, or work effort.
