The 14-year-old appeared in Tamworth Children’s Court on Monday charged with two counts of trespassing, being carried in a stolen car, assaulting police and stealing.
He was one of four teenagers arrested by Tamworth police and the dog squad in the early hours of Saturday morning after a break-in at the Flynn St council depot in Tamworth.
Police allege a group of three broke into the depot and let off fire extinguishers about 10.30pm on Friday night and then returned later with another 17-year-old.
It’s alleged the group found a set of keys to a car and drove the vehicle through locked front gates, onto Terry St, before it mounted the curb and got bogged.
The group allegedly fled but police dog ‘Jonno’ was used to track the scent of the group to a nearby home.
Police said three of the teenagers surrendered but the dog was used to arrest a 14-year-old boy, who allegedly assaulted the handler, and then suffered minor injuries from the dog.
He will return to court next month.
