THE children at St Edward’s School celebrated our annual Grandparents Day last Friday at our Primary campus. We had a huge number of families attend the day and participate in the activities being hosted as well as our liturgy.

Our grandparents joined in our celebrations, enjoyed a giggle or two and shed a tear as they watched the children read, sing and recite poetry.
We were blessed to have them stay and enjoy morning tea at the Primary and would like to thank Mclean Care in particular for providing morning tea and allowing a number of their residents to come and share the celebrations.
A fantastic day shared by all!
This week, to coincide with Family and Marriage Week, and the Feast of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, our Parish will celebrate Family Mass for Grandparents and families on Sunday July 31.
The last week of term has proved to be busy for the St Edward’s School community. Wednesday night saw St Edward’s staff and children braving the cold weather to put on their dancing shoes in order to raise money for charity. It was decided that all children would come dressed in Olympic-themed clothing in spirit of the upcoming Olympic Games.
We managed to raise $1770 which will be donated to a local charity. All children had a fabulous time dancing the night away to some favourite tunes. Thank you to JT for being our wonderful DJ for the evening and to all of the families who supported this event.
The Primary campus was alive during our NAIDOC Week celebrations. Thank you to Ms Smith and Miss Sampson who spent many hours preparing our children to perform on stage and be proud of their culture.
The Primary children wowed us with their traditional dance performance while the Infants children cleverly shared their counting skills in traditional language and dramatic retelling of the traditional Dreamtime story ‘How the birds got their colours’. McCarthy Catholic College Dance students also attended our celebrations to perform. They managed to captivate the audience with their cultural dance and then we listened to a heartfelt guitar solo song.
We thank each of you for giving up your time to share these experiences with us. This year’s NAIDOC celebrations also saw us farewelling our Infant’s Aboriginal Education Assistant, Mrs Joy Speaborough. She has been a caring, dedicated member of our school community for many years and will be sorely missed. Thank you for everything you have done for all of the students and staff at St Edward’s School and we wish you all the very best for a happy retirement Joy.
