In under two weeks, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will undertake the 2016 census, and their data suggests more an more people will complete the census online.
The number of Australians over 65 years is increasing, but the ABS does not expect the country’s seniors to get left behind.
ABS data shows about one in two people aged 65 years and over identify themselves as internet users.
More than 15 million people are expected to lodge their details online, which ABS staff said is shaping up to be “Australia’s biggest-ever online event”.
The ABS signaled a big shift to digital first census counting this year and from August 1, residents should receive letters with information on how to complete the census online using the household’s unique census login.
The letter will also include directions on how to request a paper form.
Head of the 2016 census, Duncan Young, said the population count provides critical information for service and infrastructure planning for the nation’s seniors.
