Inverell High School debaters in finals

THE Inverell High School debating team of Year 9 and 10 students yesterday earned a place in the state debating finals by defeating Hurlstone Agricultural High School.

The Inverell side successfully upheld the proposition “That we should criminalise the actions of internet trolls”.

They now go on to meet Sydney Boys’ High which ousted James Ruse High School in the other semi-final debate.

Inverell High was the only country side and comprehensive high school in the semi-finals which were contested at Sydney’s Pennant Hills High School yesterday.

Only one member of the team, Matilda Witherdin, is in Year 10, with the other three debaters, Ebony Adams, Hannah Worsley and fourth member Brooke McLennan, all in Year 9.

The team is coached by Inverell High teacher Karen Witherdin.

The finals will be contested in front of an audience of some 300 guests at the Art Gallery of NSW on Friday, November 9.
