McCarthy’s long tradition of jump rope stemmed from when Ms Coote was just 14 and underwent a live saving heart transplant in 1984.
The school has since raised thousands of dollars for research and teachers yesterday said it was hoped the students could raise between 3000 and 4000 for the cause this year.
PDH/PE Teacher Jane Burt said the three-hour long jump rope event also doubled as a great way for the kids to exercise.
Ms Coote, who lives in Tamworth, told The Leader she was proud of the efforts made over the last three decades for research.
“They’ve been doing it for 33-years and that’s a phenomenal achievement,” she said.
“I’m really proud of McCarthy and their continued value of Jump Rope for Heart, all that education of students in how to look after our hearts and all those funds that have been raised.
“All those years ago, it was a very hard year at the school, tragic things happened but one of the goods things that came out of it was they started jump rope for heart.”
