Described as "...quite simply stunning", Chi Udaka transports the audience to a visually exquisite world where the power of taiko drumming (Chi – earth) and the sensuality of dance (Udaka – water) joyfully combine to thrill audiences.
A must see,Taikoz – Chi Udaka at Capitol Theatre 27 July at7.30pm . Chi Udaka brings together Japanese taiko and Indian classical dance in a spectacular show of great strength, finesse and vitality.
One of the hits of the 2014 Sydney Festival, Chi Udaka is a unique collaboration created by Artistic Directors Ian Cleworth (Taikoz) and Anandavalli (Lingalayam Indian Classical Dance Company) and features a cast of five taiko drummers, six dancers, Indian vocals, cello and featured artist Riley Lee on shakuhachi.
Drawing on the artistic and creative energies of both ensembles, Chi Udaka is an exploration of the theme of “earth and water”, the traditional elements of solidity, fluidity and differentiation that shape and form the world.
It’s a sensational show not to be missed.
“Chi Udaka is wonderful - evocative, moving, and truly memorable.….quite simply stunning.….a privilege to see artists of this calibre perform together”.says Dr Katie Lavers, Arts Hub.
”‘It’s the seeing that turns an exhilarating aural experience into something close to dance theatre with a spiritual bent. The virtuosity is thrilling but even better is the sense of pure joy the players transmit.” Weekend Australia.
