The first ever free vaccination day was held at the centre and was a combined effort between TAFE New England’s Animal Care Unit, the RSCPA and Tamworth Council, with an estimated 300 vaccines handed out.
Christine McKinnon, from TAFE’s animal care unit, said the first ever vaccination day included protection against the parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis.
“They are major issues, particularly parvovirus.
“We lose a lot of dogs every year in Tamworth, this is the first vaccination day that we have run like this,” she said.
The event also doubled as a microchipping day and Dean Hawkins from the RSPCA said locals had lined up from 8.30am, ready for the 10am start.
