The reigning premiers scored two goals in each half to beat a struggling Tamworth FC, who had 19 players for both grades as well as missing club stalwart and manager Greg Bartlett, who is serving a two-week suspension after being ordered from the technical area two Saturdays back.
Brendon Fergie (penalty) and Adam Watson (header) scored first-half goals for the Mushies while Benn Genardini and Jack Diebold added second-half strikes before Tamworth FC got a consolation own goal.
OVA coach Tim Coates reckoned it a “strong performance”.
“We played well, scored two goals in each half and that rounded out a good all-round team performance,’ he said.
He said Watson’s goal was a “clinical header” while Benn Genardini’s second-half strike came from a fast interchange of passes.
“FC put up a plucky performance,” Coates said.
“They tried hard and I think they only had 19 or 20 players for the two grades.
“But we did play well led by Adam (Watson) and Chris (Fenton).
“The pace of Will Menz on the right caused them some problems while Jack Diebold and Brendon Fergie were good at the back.”
Ross Price, Travis Beard and Hayden Davidson were best for Tamworth FC which won the second grade game 3-2 after leading 3-2.
Nash Tapp equalised with two goals but Tamworth FC scored a late winner to grab the points.
