Mr L’Estrange, who’s based in Sydney, was special guest at a morning tea with supporters and volunteers, emphasising just how important support services for cancer patients and their families were in regional areas, particularly when it came to accommodation and transport.
Inala House, at Tamworth hospital, is the result of a joint partnership between the Cancer Council and Hunter New England Health, a relationship that looks set to continue after the board of the NSW Cancer Council recently committed to a new five-year agreement with the health service.
It has 10 rooms where patients, and their carers, can stay while undergoing treatment at the North West Cancer Centre, and last financial year assisted 347 patients and carers.
Mr L’Estrange was also given a tour of the state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility during his visit, saying how impressed he was with both facilities.
