More than 75 youngsters registered to play, leaving the volunteer organisers scrambling to meet the demand. 

That job should be a little easier thanks to a $2000 grant from the State Government’s NSW Sport & Recreation funding program to fund the training, education and accreditation of the club officials. 

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall met with club volunteer Kat Tulczyn to discuss the plans for the funding.

“What a great start for this club. There are about 150 children attending the Ashford Central School – and more than half of them pull on the Roosters jersey every Saturday morning,” Mr Marshall said.

“This is a great credit to the volunteer officials, including club president Craig Tulczyn.

“However, volunteers and officials do need to be accredited and trained in doing the best job they can for the team, and this funding will meet the cost of getting that in place.” 

Mrs Tulczyn said training and accreditation would help to ensure the longevity of the club and give the young players the best chance of success. 

“We came into the season with no expectations, but have been astounded by the number of children who have come forward,” Mrs Tulczyn said. 

“While the team is yet to score a win, it hasn’t dampened the excitement and the kids, parents and supporters are having a great time.”
