HAVING recently returned from Papua New Guinea, I’d like to share from my amazing journey.
Every young Australian would be strengthened by trekking in the footsteps of our heroes on the remembrance walk of the Kokoda Trail.
They “gave their tomorrow for our today”.
It’s not a race – it’s time well spent in thought while the physical challenges “hit home” as to how these men suffered for our future.
I hope to accompany my grandchildren on this journey of a lifetime. We take so much for granted in our great land.
While on the trip I wrote this, on September 13 at Brigade Hill on the Kokoda Trail.
My eyes see the same hills,
See the same trees,
Did 62 young men feel the same breeze?
So gallant was their fight,
Such sadness in the air,
As we remember and we care.
Lest we forget.
