Both the boys’ and girls’ squads travelled to Sydney for the final component of their program.
Newington College hosted the boys over the weekend, providing a tour of the prestigious school as part of their stay.
The weekend consisted of expertise skill sessions, player and coach development and match play for both squads run by Newington College.
Head coach for the boys, Matt Endemi, was more than pleased for his squad’s efforts throughout the weekend.
“The boys really stood up and showed great leadership in their matches played against Newington College, gaining valuable information on and off the field,” he said.
The weekend for the boys’ squad consisted of two matches played against Newington College and included a training session orchestrated by Brian McCarthy, former Irish international football coach who is now the head of football at Newington.
The girls’ squad was fortunate in gaining an additional training session from McCarthy.
Head coach Marie Wise had only praise for the hospitality provided by the Newington staff.
“All of Newington staff and students were extremely welcoming for both the boys and the girls throughout the weekend. It was fantastic Brian McCarthy and his coaching staff gave up their time to benefit both our squads.”
Due to no available high-profile football matches being played over the weekend, the squads had the pleasure of watching the Greater Western Giants taking on Carlton Blues in the AFL.
