The woman and two male friends were leaving the golf club in Armidale after a function about 12.20am yesterday when two masked offenders confronted the trio in the car park, off Golf Links Rd.
“One offender was armed with a knife and the other was armed with a machete or similar,” Armidale Inspector John Walkowiak told The Leader.
“The one with the machete started to attack the 41-year-old male. The second offender approached the 45-year-old female victim, armed with a knife, and demanded her wallet.”
Inspector Walkowiak said the robbery was particularly violent.
“The victim was struck a number of times with the machete,” he said.
“The offenders ran off east along the golf course, while the victims sought refuge inside the club, where a staff member was still working, and police and ambulance attended.”
The 41-year-old was taken to Armidale hospital, where he was treated for lacerations, swelling and a suspected fractured left elbow.
He has since been released from hospital, while the second man and woman were not injured during the hold-up.
Police set up a crime scene and detectives spent yesterday canvassing the nearby area and looking at CCTV footage.
“The wallet is still outstanding. It is described as a light-pink wallet with a grey floral pattern,” Inspector Walkowiak said.
“Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw anyone leaving that area, or suspicious persons or vehicles, to contact Armidale police on 6771 0699.”
The first offender is described as being aged in his late teens to early 20s, with a thin build and about 170cm-180cm tall.
He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured bandana over his face, while the second offender was disguised with a black bandana with a white pattern over his face.
Police have been told he is of similar height and age, with a thin build, and was wearing a light-coloured jumper at the time of the robbery.
