The Coalition will provided $800,000 to upgrade Munsies Bridge, on Gostwyck Rd east of Uralla.
Mr Joyce said local bridges were vital to ensuring communities and local businesses had easy access to essential services, traffic movement and the efficient transportation of road freight.
“Right throughout this election campaign I have been campaigning to ensure the New England electorate is well serviced with road and water infrastructure, and opportunities to create jobs,” Mr Joyce said.
“This will not only reduce the time taken to transport freight from farms and local industry, but will also increase productivity and economic gains.”
The bridge was built in the late 1930s and its concrete foundations will be reused for the new bridge, while its wooden railings will be incorporated into the new design of steel railings, to emulate the heritage appearance of the old bridge.
The new bridge will still be single-lane, as a cost-benefit analysis found it would be the most efficient approach, due to the amount of traffic on the road.
