STUDENTS from Nashville are embracing their Australian experience while they are in Tamworth, including cooking, Aboriginal culture and native animals.

Tamworth Regional Council business and community director John Sommerlad said they had seen kangaroos, had a cultural experience with Len Waters and Mark Atkins, who provided them with the finer points of playing the digeridoo, and had a cooking demonstration for an Australian meal.
Mr Sommerlad said the students visited Tamworth TAFE, where they assisted in cooking a lamb shoulder and a damper and had pavlova at the end of the exercise.
The students also visited Tamworth and Peel High schools, and Nundle, where they did some gold panning and had a look at the woollen mill, and visited country music sites around Tamworth.
“They’re having a great time and loving this part of the world,” Mr Sommerlad said.
“They had their own little expeditions into kangaroo land and have enjoyed their experiences. I’d be very surprised if they don’t want to return to Australia.”
Mr Sommerlad said all the Americans he knew who had been to Australia and to Tamworth couldn’t wait to come back.
More Nashville residents will visit Tamworth in January for the country music festival.
