South bowler White-hot on weekend

NEV White scored a lawn bowls double at his South Tamworth Bowling Club on the weekend.

White, who is headed to Soldier’s Point with the South Tamworth 4’s later this month for State championships, partnered Terry Cummings to win the $1800 South Tamworth 2012 October Pairs on Saturday and then came out and won Sunday’s $2700 October Triples with Mike Whale and Laurie Assef.

He and Cummings shared $600 when they remained unbeaten in three games of 14 ends.

Th pair finished with a margin of plus 47, with Armidale Ex-Services’ Clinton Marshall and Paul Bullen winning three and finishing with a plus 30 margin. 

Nick Golledge and Chris Herden  (3w +19) were third and Russell Jordan and Brian Brosie (3w +9) fourth.

On Sunday, White, Whale and Assef went though unbeaten  in three games of 18 ends in the triples, which drew 17 teams.

They had a winning margin of +46 while runners-up Paul D’elboux, Jeff Guider and Murray Fokes had three wins and a plus 26.

Danny Daley, Nick Golledge and Chris Herden (3w +11) were third and Richard Spinks Ken Trow and Kootingal’s Kim Greentree fourth with two wins and a plus 26 margin.

“It was a good weekend for us,” South Tamworth Bowling Club bowls organiser Phil Johnson said.

“And it was a great weekend for Nev. He did the double.”

He  pocketed $300 on Sunday, with the triples winners sharing $900 of the $2700 on offer.

“It’s good timing for Nev too. He’s in the 4’s team with Terry, Nick and Chris going to Soldier’s Point to play in the State 4’s next Saturday and Sunday.

“It was a good preparation for all four of them.

“We’d just like to wish them all the best over there. 

“Peter Challinor, who is subbing for Les Goodchild, and Laurie Assef are playing in the Senior Pairs over there and Nick (Golledge) is also playing in the State Singles over there next Friday.

“We wish them all the best.”
