IT IS ironic that Tony Windsor claims to put people before politics.

This was not the case when he supported the last Labor government, which enabled Julia Gillard to introduce a carbon tax, thus breaking her solemn promise not to.
This caused large increases in electricity prices, with significant detrimental effects on Australian industry.
This achieved nothing in reducing Australia’s extremely low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Likewise, the huge investments in renewable energy in Europe have had no significant effect in reducing global CO2 emissions.
It is possible that Mr Windsor will win back the seat of New England with Greens preferences.
But those who vote for him should consider what possible benefits this would bring to our electorate.
If the Coalition wins government, he will have no influence in the Parliament.
In fact, it could have a harmful effect on our electorate in losing one of the most senior members of government as our representative.
If Labor wins government with the support of the anti-industry Greens, again he would have no influence in the Parliament, as a lone independent would likely be ignored by the Labor government.
Mr Windsor would be a “lame duck” member of Parliament.
I cannot see any valid reason for replacing our present able and conscientious member with an ageing man who promised three years ago not to re-enter politics.
