Nineteen swimmers from the club competed in the championships in Armidale which drew over 150 swimmers from across the region.
Amelia Fauchon was one of the most successful of the Scully contingent, winning the 12yrs girls’ age championship and breaking four individual records.
They weren’t confined to one stroke either, with Fauchon setting new marks in the 12&U 100m freestyle (1min 06.59secs), 50m breaststroke (41.06secs), 200m individual medley 2mins 42.65secs) and 100m butterfly (1min 16.15secs).
She also teamed up with Courtney Mulligan, Grace Edgeworth and Alexis French to break the area 200m medley relay record and qualify for the Country Championships at Olympic Park in Sydney next month.
Chloe Mulligan, meanwhile ,set a new bar in the
girls’ 8&U 50m (45.23secs) and 100m (1min 45.28secs) butterfly on her way to the 8yrs age championship.
She also combined with Hannah Walmsley, Molly Smith and Tilani Smith to better the girls’ 10&U 200m freestyle relay time set by the Scully team of which she, Courtney Mulligan and French were a part of last year.
French was also awarded the 11yrs age championship while Amy Cantrill (13yrs), Courtney Mulligan (11yrs) and Thomas Duddy (9yrs) were runners up in their age groups and Benjamin Duddy (11yrs), Oliver Fauchon (10yrs) and Molly Smith (10yrs) finished third in their age groups.
Club coach Pedro Barbosa was very pleased with the results and says the winter competitions are a key element in swimming training.
“It’s important that our swimmers put in the hard work over the cooler months in order to ensure they are developing a strong foundation in the lead-up to summer competitions,” he said.
“Currently we are focused on high-intensity and high- volume training, working towards the State competition in December.”
