The Pig and Tinder Box, in the historic former ANZ bank building on Peel St, was the brainchild of two best mates from Sydney – Chris Cornforth and Fraser Haughton – who met while working together and decided to take the concept of small bars to regional areas.
Their first opened in Orange as Percy’s Bar and Kitchen, and Tamworth was next on their list under their Harvest Hospitality business banner.
Locals and those from across the region joined the business in celebrating its first birthday at the bar.
The Pig and Tinder Box marketing and events co-ordinator Claudia Byrnes said the friends came across Tamworth and they realised there was a bit of a gap in the market with small bars.
“The historic building was a calling card for them, too,” she said.
“It was a great opportunity to bring it back to life and it’s been fantastic. The guys and whole team have had a lot of fun with it, but it’s always a challenge opening up a new business in a new town.”
Ms Byrnes said Tamworth diners had embraced the venue’s concept of casual dining and share plates.
“Locals now refer to us as The Pig,” she said.
“We are not sure what’s to come yet, but it’s in the works, with theme nights quite popular with the locals. We will hopefully have a few more theme nights. We are focusing on local produce in the town, because there’s so much, and we have built great relationships in the town, so we’ll keep that going.”
Those who love The Pig can also look forward to a new winter menu coming in July.
