Twin Peaks Challenges 'Roo Ride' lives up to its name

THE “Roo Ride” leg of the 2012 Twin Peak Challenge III at Lake Keepit certainly earned its name on Saturday with one friendly hopper lending its support to the event’s participants.

The group of about 40 braved the cold – and on this occasion the small roo bounding across a downhill part of the track – while conquering the annual fundraising challenge for Tamworth’s Ronald McDonald House.

The event, held around the dam, included a 35km bike ride, 5km kayak, 6.5km ride and 3.2km run to finish.

This year the challenge raised about $35,000 and took the majority of its keen competitors an average of three-and-a-half hours to complete.

The kayak was a new addition to the challenge this year. Last year competitors climbed Flagstaff Mountain twice, with a bike ride around Farrer in between.
