Teachers plan day of action

THE NSW Teacher’s Federation has announced a date for it’s Community Day of Action as part of its ongoing campaign opposing the cuts to public education.

The Community Day of Action for teachers, parents and concerned citizens will be held on Sunday, November 18.

Activities for the day and events around the north are still being planned.

It is expected a full announcement about the Community Day of Action will be released sometime next week.

The day will follow the launch of a new advertising campaign the association launched this week condemning the $1.7 billion in cuts to public education announced by the O’Farrell government.

Teachers Federation acting president Gary Zadkovich said when the government announced its changed education policies they promised not to cut education funding.

“They lied. In September 2012, they cut education funding by $1.7 billion, the biggest cut to education in the history of NSW,” he said.

“The government says the cuts will not affect schools and colleges. Another lie. By cutting over 1800 education staff and the programs they run, schools and colleges will be forced to do more with less.

“The advertising blitz is part of the ongoing campaign to stop this happening by forcing the govern- ment to reverse the cuts.”
