The accident happened about 2.30pm off the Wimborne Rd when an ultralight clipped powerlines and flipped, crashing into the ground.
Godfrey Wenness, who owns the property near Mt Borah where the accident happened, said the pilot was flying from Byron Bay to Mt Borah, a popular paragliding launch site, when his ultralight got into trouble in gusty conditions.
Mr Wenness said the pilot flew regularly to the paragliding facility and had landed at the site many times in the past eight years. He said the pilot was pulled from the wreckage by onlookers who were on the scene.
“Luckily the aircraft did not catch on fire, despite fuel spilling from the wing tanks and engine compartment and downed high-voltage power lines close by,” Mr Wenness said.
The pilot suffered a foot injury and minor cuts and was taken to Tamworth hospital for treatment. His aircraft was destroyed.
Mr Wenness said a report on the crash was being completed for the Recreational Aircraft Association.
