The headline act might be West Lions hosting North Tamworth in not only the local derby but also a top-of-the-table clash between two unbeaten sides as well as a replay of last year’s grand final.
It doesn’t stop there for Group 4, the six-team competition perfectly matched up this weekend with all three matches being played between sides that have equal standing on the table after four rounds.
Narrabri will host Gunnedah at Collins Park in what will be a replay of last year’s minor semi-final as well as the inaugural Dallas Donnelly Cup, in honour of the former Bulldogs, Western Suburbs Magpies and Australian prop.
The Bulldogs and the Blues had a running battle all season for the minor placings last year and are back in the same position this season, locked at two wins and a loss each and jostling to stay in touch with the Bears and Lions.
In Armidale, Oxley Diggers and Armidale Rams will both be searching for a first win of the season as the cellar dwellers go to war.
The Diggers will be hopeful of attaining a third overall victory in their three years of existence while the Rams have looked outclassed in all appearances as they continue to re-build the club in their first season since leaving Group 19.
The big Group 4 action doesn’t stop there, with the exciting Second Division Shield also set to explode as the two ladder leaders face off for the first time.
The unbeaten Dungowan Cowboys will head up the hills to play second-placed Uralla in a highly- anticipated Shield clash in what is so far the closest fought competition in the region, while Kootingal head to Bingara to play Bundarra and Boggabri host Wee Waa.
In Group 19, the ladder-leading Macintyre Warriors, who are only seven rounds into their establishment season, host the second-placed Guyra Superspuds who, apart from the Warriors, have been the biggest surprise packets to come out of the competition this season.
While that game is crucial to the ladder there will be plenty of eyes on the second big Moree derby of the season at Burt Jovanovich Oval, as the Moree Boomerangs clash with the Moree Boars.
Their round two clash at the same venue was abandoned after 32 minutes due to a brawl that included players, crowd members and at least one runner.
Following that spiteful affair, five players and the runner were cited and suspended, and both clubs struggled to get their seasons back on track.
The Rangs have featured in all three of the last grand finals, and won two of them, but are sitting in sixth with only two wins to their name and only Tingha behind them, while the Boars are only one point ahead of them with two wins and a draw, with both needing a victory to stay in touch with the top teams.
Meanwhile, Muswellbrook and Greta-Branxton will clash in a second versus third Aplus Contracting Hunter Valley Group 21 clash, with both clubs eager to take the points and lock in second place behind the unbeaten Scone Thoroughbreds.
Scone have a four-point lead at the top, with a clash against the winless Denman Devils, who forfeited to Singleton last Sunday.
Fourth-placed Singleton and Aberdeen do battle at Pirtek Park tomorrow evening.
