It’s one of our most traditional of comfort foods, and even though our culinary tastes have changed over the years, the humble meat pie is still the biggest seller by a country mile when it comes to Tamworth pie sales.
Mikeloren Patisserie owners Anthony and Mel Mabbott have had their Tamworth Square shop for over six years and baker Anthony is gearing up to deliver more than 400 pies a day to his counters over winter.
“It’s definitely our biggest season and we would increase our production by more than half for winter,” Mel Mabbott said yesterday.
While older buyers might go for curried pies more often, younger pie eaters prefer plain or cheese and bacon varieties.
But the plain old beef pie is still top of the taste test for everyone – men more likely to have two pies for lunch and women opting for one and maybe a sweet cake to top it all off.
