Tamworth Regional Council crews worked well into the night to fix the broken pipe along Darling St, which was reported to council and police at about 8.15am.

A spokeswoman for council said the water main extended from the Water Treatment Plant up to the Victoria Park Reservoir.

The reservoir was shut off and water was now being directed from the Oxley Vale reservoir to ensure a continuation of supply.

“Residents may notice a discoloration in the water, this is because we are now sourcing it from another direction,” she said. “There is nothing wrong with the quality of the water but this will take most of the day to fix. “

The road was closed as asphalt was lifted from the road for council crews to assessed the damage to the northern end of the street.

The broken part was removed, a new section of pipe installed and the water main reconnected.

“At this point, the fix will be finalised tonight [Monday],” the spokeswoman said.

The Leader understands water had flowed from the water main site down into Carthage St where it was then collected by storm water drains.
