In a frenzy on The Leader’s Facebook page this week, locals unleashed their opinions on the nation’s dairy issues, with many admitting they had changed their choice of milk at the checkout.
“(I) will never go back to the cheaper brands, due to taste and to help support our farmers,” Greg Morgan commented on our page.
“I used to drink Coles milk, because it was cheap, until I found out all this and now get Peel Valley Milk, much better in taste, too,” Tiffany Ayton said.
While some of our Facebook followers admitted they buy their milk by price, others have thrown their support behind local brands.
“Peel Valley Milk: one, they are local; two, their milk is great and the cream, oh my goodness,” Jackie Bee wrote.
“Three, it lasts longer. Much longer than home brand. Thanks Peel Valley Milk for hanging in there.”
The comments followed the announcement of a care package for dairy farmers which includes $555 million in low interest concessional loans, $900,000 invested into one-on-one counselling and
$2 million dollars for the monitoring of global dairy products and prices.
The package was announced by Agriculture Minister and member for New England Barnaby Joyce at a dairy farm North West of Tamworth on Wednesday morning.
