The 16-year-old Victorian boy was arrested in a paddock near Gurley, after a pursuit in a stolen car that spanned almost two hours on April 27.
The teenager pleaded guilty to a raft of offences in Parramatta Children’s Court, including receiving stolen property worth more than $15,000 outside of NSW, dishonestly obtaining property by deception, police pursuit, special-range PCA, receiving stolen goods and being unlicensed.
The boy was behind the wheel of a silver Nissan Pulsar that was reported stolen from Victoria on the same day as the pursuit and was spotted by police speeding up the Newell Highway, south of Narrabri.
Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the teenager continued to evade police around Narrabri before heading north to Moree.
The car continued at speeds estimated to be above 150km/hr by police, who abandoned the chase for safety reasons.
Officers created a roadblock south of Moree and stopped all traffic in a bid to stop the out-of-control vehicle, before it rammed a police car, twice.
More than a dozen police were involved in the operation to stop the car, which eventually rammed a fence and sped off into a paddock.
The vehicle caught alight and the 16-year-old and a passenger ran from the car.
They were arrested shortly after by officers who gave chase on foot.
The juvenile has been in custody since his arrest in April.
Magistrate John Crawford sentenced the 16-year-old to 12 months in juvenile detention with a non-parole period of five months, and disqualified him from holding a licence for two years.
He was convicted on five of the charges but found guilty and issued a caution on the charge of unlicensed driving.
The juvenile will be eligible for parole in September.
A 15-year-old girl who was arrested in the paddock and was allegedly travelling in the stolen vehicle remains before the courts.
The girl, who was granted conditional bail in Parramatta Children’s Court, is charged with two counts of receiving stolen goods and possessing a prohibited drug.
She will return to court in June.
