Elderly woman left shaken after Tamworth home invasion

An elderly woman has been robbed during a home invasion at Tamworth this morning.

About 1am this morning, the 83-year-old woman was asleep inside her unit on Gunn Place when she was confronted by two males.

The young males threatened the woman before stealing a small safe and her purse, before leaving the unit.

The woman was left shaken but not hurt during the incident.

Police from Oxley Local Area Command have established a crime scene and believe entry was gained through a sliding screen door which was forced open.

The woman has described the pair as being of Caucasian appearance, possibly aged in their teens and wearing hooded tops.

Police are canvassing the neighbourhood today and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who can help the investigation is urged to contact Tamworth Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
