St Edward’s duo Marley Pitt and Mia Kennedy played big roles in their Polding side having a great three days, topping it off with a 29-15 win over Hunter in the final.
Sydney South West were the only team to finish the pool games with six wins in as many games – the other three semi-finalists all dropped one game on their way to the finals.
Hunter booked their spot in the final with a convincing 24-15 win over MacKillop, while Polding just pulled past Sydney South West 38-33 in the other semi-final.
For Pitt, winning the championship in her first time in Polding colours is the highlight of her playing career so far.
“It is definitely up the top,” Pitt said.
“We have had such a good week and we had a pretty good team.”
She has been playing representative basketball for three years and enjoyed playing against both the girls she already knew in other teams, but also the best primary basketballers in the state.
“I knew a lot of the girls already,” Pitt said.
“It has been great getting to know the other girls and learning their game.”
The North West girls are also calling the carnival a success, after finally getting a one point win on Wednesday against Barrier after copping some tough losses in other matches.
Coach Kiegan Roser said thecarnival was more about development and experience for the hosts.
“The girls got better and better every game they played,” Roser said.
“You can notice the improvement in skill level and confidence.”
Quirindi Public School’s Maddy Potter took home the North West Medal for her skills, leadership and sportsmanship shown over the carnival.
Following the final the NSW PSSA side was announced with Polding dominating selections with three representatives while the Hunter and Mackillop had two each, and CIS, Sydney East and Sydney North one.
That side will be coached by Damien Collins and will head to Terrigal for the National Championships in August.
In Narrabeen the North West CHS netball side ended a tough week with three losses on the final day, although did manage to pull off a one point victory over West Darling on the opening day for a highlight.
In Unanderra the CHS girls’ hockey side had better luck, finishing the pool games with a win and two draws from four games.
