Adam Keiran Collin Gillin appeared in Armidale Local Court for the first time on Monday and admitted to supplying methylamphetamine and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
The 28-year-old was seen walking along Golgotha St by police from the Armidale Target Action Group just before 4pm on May 3.
According to facts tendered in court, Gillin is “known to police for involvement with prohibited drugs”.
Officers stopped Gillin and a friend and asked them if they were carrying illegal drugs.
“The accused pulled out both his pants pockets and police observed him concealing a small package in his left hand,” police facts said, before Gillin handed over the package to officers.
“Police examined the package and identified six resealable plastic bags containing a white crystalline substance, that police suspected was methylamphetamine, known by the street name, ice.”
Officers searched Gillin’s property and also found $250 in cash, which he admitted was from the “sale of methylamphetamine”.
Police said at the time the drugs had an estimated street value of $600.
“Gillin made full admissions to supplying methylamphetamine with the intention of supplying six bags of methylamphetamine for $100 per point or deal bag,” court facts state.
Following the guilty pleas, Magistrate Michael Holmes said there was no other penalty available other than imprisonment, noting Gillin’s history.
He jailed Gillin for 12 months with a minimum of nine months behind bars and ordered the money to be forfeited and drugs to be destroyed.
Gillin will be eligible for parole in February, 2017.
