And Brumbies prop Ruan Smith says trying to secure a bonus point against the Japan Sunwolves at Canberra Stadium on Saturday will be crucial in their quest to finish top of the Australian conference and earn an automatic finals berth.

Utility back Robbie Coleman (hamstring) returned to training on Monday and is a chance of playing the Sunwolves.

It's an important clash for the Brumbies, who are one-point behind the NSW Waratahs going into the final Super Rugby round before the international break.

But for Mann-Rea it also has some added meaning with Moore, the Brumbies' first-choice hooker, set to return to the Queensland Reds at the end of the season.

With former Brumbies rake Saia Fainga'a to return to his original club in 2017, Mann-Rea said the rest of the season would be a chance to stake his claim for the starting hooker role next season.

"Every opportunity I get to play I try to perform and build something for next year. Now that Stephen's moving on there's an opportunity there to start," he said.

"It'll be a good battle with Saia coming down, we've got Robbie Abel here too.

"Any chance you get to play in front of [coach Stephen Larkham] in a Brumbies team you've got tickets on yourself to try and hopefully get that starting spot."

Mann-Rea and Smith have an idea of what to expect from the Sunwolves, with the pair having played in Japan.

Mann-Rea said the Sunwolves had a good scrum and were a "pretty clinical side".

While some might think the Japanese forwards would be smaller than their Brumbies counterparts, Smith said that was just "perception" and their forward pack was actually heavier than the Reds on the weekend.

But the Sunwolves do sit second last on the Super Rugby ladder with just one win and they are yet to taste victory away from home.

It's a game the Brumbies are expected to win and win well which could see them get just their second bonus point of the season in the process.

Given they're one point behind the Waratahs, who face the ladder-leading Waikato Chiefs at the Sydney Football Stadium on Friday, that bonus point could be crucial in their run home to the finals.

Smith said they had tried to score tries all season and they would continue with their attacking mindset against the Sunwolves.

"We've only got one bonus point so far in this comp so that's something we want to do – get more tries obviously," he said.

"We all know bonus points at the end of the competition [are a] massive thing. That's our goal – to score tries, it has been since the start of the season."

After the Sunwolves, Super Rugby goes into a four-week hiatus when the Wallabies play a three-Test series against England before resuming on July 1.

It's a stop-start time of the season for the Brumbies, who have just come off a bye.

"Having that four-week block puts a bit of a dampener on the scheduling of the tournament, but you can use it to try and get some games, a bit of a pre-season, some strength [work] and heal a few injuries if you're carrying them," Mann-Rea said.

"So it has its advantages, but also has its disadvantages – if you've got momentum you've got to stop.

"But everyone's got to do it and we'll find out who handles it better when we rip back into it after the Test block."
