The tier 2 tennis athletes of the Northern Inland Academy of Sport Inland Technology travelled to their first NIAS tournament on Saturday, 14 May. Head coaches Jarrod Campbell, Dale Martin and Justin Sherriff put the squad through their paces with weeks of tough training, designed to increase their match skills. Over the weekend the squad competed in their respective age groups in the singles and doubles .
“It was fantastic to see the athletes perform to the best of their levels” Martin said.
In the under 12s Boys, Aaron Osmond (Gunnedah) put on a strong performance finishing 4th overall in the singles, and paired up with Conner Hennesy (Coffs Harbour) to finish 2nd overall in the doubles competition.
Both Nick Barnier (Gunnedah) and Ben Butler (Inverell) were up against it in an incredibly strong age group with the under 14s, impressively qualifying for the semi-finals in the doubles. Connor Dennehy (Armidale) had a standout tournament, finishing 3rd in the under 16 boys and making the semi-finals for the men’s open singles.
Connor then teamed up with head coach of Sawtell, Eli Baylis, to take out the open men’s doubles. Sahra Dennehy (Armidale) carried on the family name, finishing 3rd overall in the under 16s girls singles competition, and qualifying for the semi-finals in the women’s open singles, and doubles.
Football readying for Sydney tour
The Northern Inland Academy of Sport Armidale City Bowling Club Football squad’s regional training camp was held last weekend in Armidale (Sports UNE), Saturday and Sunday 14th/15th of May. Head coaches Matt Endemi (boys) and Maree Wise (girls) were eager on taking the squads development both on and off the field to the next level.
Off the back of a successful first camp, Endemi and Wise were looking to expand the player’s physical aspects of football leading in to their Sydney Tour in June.
“Leading up to our tour of Sydney, a lot of the kids have stepped up and shown some great leadership on and off the field which is benefiting our younger athletes” Endemi said.
With Northern Inland Football’s Technical Director Howard Stubbs as the team manager, the weekend comprised of fitness, ball skills and conditioning of the physical and mental aspects of competitive Football.
The weekend was run from 9am through to 4:30pm on the Saturday and Sunday from 9am through to 12:30pm. The squad were fortunate enough to be welcomed by key sponsor, the Armidale City Bowling for dinner on the Saturday night. The squads next training session before their tour will be on the 5th of June in Tamworth.
Rugby league fine-tuning for Central Coast Tour
An exciting weekend for the Northern Inland Academy of Sports Tamworth Services Club/Aussie Home Loans Rugby League program, as they will be challenged to the best of their ability.
The squad’s regional training day will be held this weekend in Tamworth, Sunday 22nd of May. Head coach Peter Stevens is eager to step up the boy’s defensive structures with their upcoming tour of the Central Coast around the corner.
With the assistance of team manager Scott Bone the day will be comprised of fitness, ball skills, conditioning of the body and the physical and mental aspects of Rugby League. The training day will run from 9am through to 1pm and will be at Jack Woolaston Oval Peel Street, Tamworth.
