Adam Harvey is bringing a replica of his home bar, including his bar stools, on tour to the Inverell RSM Club on Thursday, May 26.
“We’re setting up the bar and I’ve even knocked the bar stools off from my bar at home,” the country singer-songwriter said.
“I want people to come along and have a big old night at Harvey’s Bar.”
Harvey has been touring Victoria and Tasmania and regional NSW, including Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst, before he heads to Inverell and then starts touring Queensland.
He said he’d enjoyed visiting places that he hadn’t played for many years, including Inverell.
“We go to Tamworth every year and we don’t tend to come back through the year,” he said.
“Rather than go up and down the coast, we haven’t been to Inverell for years, so we are coming back and have played Forbes and Orange, and I haven’t been there for years either. It’s good to go back to those little towns. People appreciate that we have come to them for a change and they don’t have to drive to the coast to see you.”
To make the audience feel like they are joining the country singer and his mates in the backyard, the concerts including plenty of footage from is bar and backyard.
“So far no one’s wanted their money back and it’s been really fun,” he said.
“We don’t have a set list like other tours and people ask for some outrageous songs and we try to do them. I get people to call out songs that they want to hear, which is a bit different to the usual show. Someone tried to get me sing Not Pretty Enough by Kasey Chambers.”
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a performer, Harvey has also been inviting audience members to sing on stage.
“We’ve had some pretty good people out of the crowd, but some pretty bad ones, too,” he said.
“We’ve certainly discovered some new talent and some people who maybe shouldn’t sing.”
The new format is gaining fans, with Harvey receiving plenty of positive feedback from people.
For those in Tamworth who can’t make the trek to Inverell next week, Harvey returns to the Country Music Capital in July for the Hats off to Country Festival and his annual fundraiser, Give Me Five for Kids.
“We will be raising a quid for the hospital and we would love people to come along to that one,” he said.
“I pay the band myself so that every single cent goes to the Tamworth hospital. It started when I got roped in as a favour years ago and have been doing it ever since. Wests give us the room for the day and it’s a bit of a team effort and always good fun.”
Harvey will bring his wife up for that weekend and said they enjoyed making it a bit of a short holiday as well.
“That gig is always good fun and I love helping out the hospital,” he said.
The months ahead hold plenty more gigs and Harvey said he may return to the studio.
“I’m looking at doing another album, but I don’t know what the plan is yet,” he said.
Before he locks himself away for more recording, catch him on Thursday, May 26 at Inverell RSM Club with tickets available at the venue.
