Tomorrow is National Walk Safely to School Day, which is aimed at encouraging primary school-age children to change this and lead a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Tamworth West Public is one of many local primary schools that will be marking the annual event by encouraging their students to start their day right with exercise.
The whole school will be rewarded for their efforts with a healthy breakfast of yogurt, fruit, and Vegemite on bread rolls provided by Teys Tamworth.
“The Student Representative Council have organised the day and the whole-school breakfast starts at 8.30,” Tamworth West teacher Kellie Dean said.
She said healthy food and road safety classroom activities throughout the day would reinforce the healthy message with students.
This year marks the 17th year of the walk-to-school initiative, which also promotes reduced car-dependency, greater use of public transport and cleaner air to primary schoolkids across Australia.
