Thousands of people visited the sixth annual Shannons Tamworth Motor Show with local charities the big winners from the weekend’s activity, when money is distributed in coming months.
Best of Show went to Linda and Graham Jones who transported their imported 1953 Ford F100 from Brisbane to their first Tamworth outing.
Three years after bringing the 63-year-old pickup out from the US, and after many hours of custom work on the paint, upholstery and seats, they were invited interstate for the first time and took the top award.
“We’ve exhibited at a number of shows in Brisbane and Toowoomba, and sometimes we’ve been in the top 10, but never won the top award – I simply can’t believe it,” Mr Jones said.
Organiser Neville Evans said visitors were attracted to the show because the cars on display were more works of art than modern day cars.
“They like to see the bling and they like to see something that is a step above the daily driver,” he said.
He said the exhibitors loved showing off the product of their hard labour, with many restoring the vehicles to their original glory.
“The car show scene is alive and well and really kicking in this country at the moment,” Mr Evans said.
“We have all ages because we have something in the show for everybody – everybody who comes through the doors sees at least one thing they like.”
About 150 vehicles were on display in total.
