The school’s lawn bowls side has made it all the way to the final 16 of the State CHS Lawn Bowls Triples Knockout.
It’s the best the school has performed in the competition for a number of years, and all the more remarkable for the age of the side.
Two are in Year 7 and one in Year 9.
They’re all girls too.
Tara Stewart plays lead, sister Zoe second with Casey Cone at skip.
Fielding an all-girls team is a first for the school and they are certainly in the minority.
“They’ve done really well considering their age,” coach Marnie Watson said.
“A lot of the time they’re playing Year 11 and 12 boys.”
They beat Armidale High in the first round 25-21, clinching it on the last bowl.
They then travelled out to Coonabarabran.
“Once again it was a very close game,” Watson said.
“They were down by about eight shots and a bit dejected.
“But they picked themselves up and ended up coming back to win 33-17.”
The final 16 will be run as a finals series on June 15-16 at Blacktown with the 16 finals teams divided into four sections.
Peel and Glen Innes will both represent North West with Peel the B team and Glen Innes the A team.
They’ll play each of the sides in their section with the winner of each progressing through to the semi-finals.
