The annual Currabubula Red Cross Art Show is exhibiting 500 paintings, with visitors amazed by the diversity of the works.
Thursday night saw 200 people at the opening and show publicity officer Susan Sims said there were plenty of paintings sold.
“Opening night was very successful, with people travelling from Gunnedah, Quirindi, Tamworth and Manilla,” Mrs Sims said.
“Some of the artists who won were also there, which was nice.
“Judge Sandra McMahon, from Weswal Gallery, commented on the excellent standard and remarkable diversity of the artworks.
“She had a lot of trouble deciding on winners, so gave out highly commended and commended as well as first prizes.”
Mrs Sims said visitors were also commenting on the high standard of this year’s offerings.
“Numbers of paintings are on par with previous years,” she said.
“It ranges every year between 500 and 600 and the prices of paintings range from $100 up to $16,000.”
Mrs Sims said visitors made a day out of visiting the event.
“It is such a well-loved event and everyone says they always find something they really like,” she said.
“If they like a particular artist’s work, they like to find all the works by that particular artist. It’s also a chance to catch up with friends. We do hundreds of morning teas, afternoon teas and lunches.”
Money raised from the event goes to the Australian Red Cross and the local branch votes on where the money goes.
“We have voted for the money to go to Western Region NSW Drought Relief,” Mrs Sims said.
“It will go to the regional office in Dubbo, which is using it for men’s health and drought relief.”
The art show is at the Currabubula Hall from 10am to 5pm today and 10am to 4pm tomorrow.
