A UNIVERSITY of New England (UNE) executive yesterday rejected claims that senior staff would receive “bonuses” as a result of the university’s proposed printery sale.
Nearly 250 of the university’s staff and students met to resolve that senior staff should renounce plans to sell the printery.
The university’s union representatives said the only explanation behind the sell-off was that senior staff would receive bonuses.
UNE chief operating officer Peter Edlund said the claims were blatantly wrong and their decision to sell the printery, UNEprint, was business based.
“The volumes of the printery have markedly dropped over the years,” he said.
