Ambulance paramedics were called to a house on Manners St, Tenterfield, just before 11am on Friday after reports a woman suffered numerous snake bites.
On arrival, paramedics treated the 22-year-old woman for six snake bites to the hand.
She was then transported to Tenterfield’s Prince Albert Memorial Hospital.
Authorities confirmed the woman was trying to protect her young child in the backyard when she was attacked by the snake.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was tasked from Tamworth and collected the woman, who was then flown to Tamworth hospital for observation on Friday afternoon.
She was believed to be in a stable condition.
