Moonbi Magic Barrel Racing Incorporated staged its annual Moonbi Magic event last Saturday.
It is the richest one-day barrel racing event held in Australia, with the best barrel racers in the country travelling across three states to compete for more than $25,000 in cash and prizes.
The feature event – the Hogs Breath Cafe Classic Barrel Race – was for horses aged four to six years old and run over two rounds.
It had record entries, 46 cowboys and cowgirls battling it out to see who would be crowned the 2016 champion.
Katina Matthews from Legends of Morn Quarter Horse Stud, Tamworth won the prestige event riding a five-year-old mare she bred and trained called “Blazin Ta Fame”.
The duo also won fastest time of the day in the Classic, fastest five-year-old and AQHA fastest classic horse.
Other events were extremely well supported, also with record entries.
The 4D event sponsored by JT Fossey, Legends of Morn Quarter Horse Stud and Moonbi Real Estate attracted 143 competitors.
The fastest time was Calla Mathews riding “Rocs Coyote Morn” to win the 1st Division, Calla also took out fastest time of the 4D and fastest AQHA 4D horse.
Wendy Caban, riding “Buddy”, won 2nd Division, Maddison Pearce, riding Ellie, won 3rd Division and Anna Crisp, riding “Ameroo Sweet Sal”, rounded up 4th Division.
First in the Golden Oldies was Tracey Macey riding “Ray”.
Tiny Tots Led was won by fou-year-old Piper Hammer riding “Playmate”.
Levi Ward from Port Macquarie won Tiny Tots Unassisted, riding “Maverick”.
Under 11yrs was taken out by Kaydee Hernando from Moonbi, riding “Indi”.
Tyler Palmer won the 11-14ys age group riding “Bronze Tommy” and Chloe Whitfield, riding “Superstar”, won 14-18yrs.
