Detectives are investigating the attempted armed hold-up at a service station on Rouse St late on Sunday night as they call for witnesses.
Police said a man entered the store about 11.15pm on Sunday and pushed the employee inside.
“The offender produced a knife and demanded money from the staff member,” New England Detective Inspector Ann Joy told The Leader.
After a short struggle, the male offender left the store without any proceeds and ran towards Rouse St.
The employee suffered minor lacerations to both arms but did not need medical treatment, police said.
Local officers were alerted and are hunting a man who used a black face covering to disguise himself.
He is described as having dark brown hair and was last seen wearing black pants with a white stripe down the side, a long black-hooded jumper and light blue joggers.
“Detectives have examined the scene for any forensic evidence and are currently examining CCTV,” Detective Inspector Joy said.
“They’re conducting ongoing inquiries.
“Now police are hoping someone might have seen the man acting suspiciously just before or after the attempted hold-up, and are urging any witnesses to come forward.”
