Water supply to a number of properties, including the Goodstart Early Learning Centre, was disrupted for more than three-and-a-half hours, with council supplying water to the centre to ensure toilets were able to be used.
The work is part of an ongoing water main replacement project in East Tamworth.
Workers began digging trenches yesterday in Brisbane St – at the intersection with Raglan St – and will continue towards the intersection with Bourke St over the next six weeks.
TRC civil construction manager, Graeme McKenzie said there will be some “minor disruption to property access and on-street parking” as the project proceeds, but that the council is doing what it can to “minimise any impacts”.
“As work proceeds construction crews will give residents more information when specific times are known, to help minimise any access impacts or disruption to the water supply,” he said.
The works include replacing the existing water main and water services to homes and properties, as well as relocating the main from its position in the middle of the roadway closer to the kerb and gutter.
The water main being replaced supplies several hundred homes in the East Tamworth area and was earmarked for renewal under the council’s Water Main Replacement Strategy.
The project also includes footpath and driveway restoration works.
The Brisbane St project is the first of three water main replacements to be undertaken by the council in East and North Tamworth in the coming months.
Work in Yarral Ave will start on Monday, May 16, and a similar project in Johnston St between Hyman and Dean streets is scheduled to start in mid-June.
