Sinclair’s blind audition for The Voice aired on NBN last night and the region cheered as Team Madden welcomed her on board.
She performed The Killers’ track, When You Were Young.
“I think a lot of people these days wish they were young again,” Sinclair said.
“They want to take back that moment. I love The Killers and it has always been a song close to my heart.”
The 20-year-old was born in Canada, but now lives in Sydney while her parents are still in Tamworth.
Sinclair said her goal was to get onto Team Madden because she believed they had a lot in common.
“I definitely wanted to be with the boys because I believed they had a good understanding of what my sound would be,” she said.
“We get along well.”
She said she hoped the city would cheer her on and said it was family that spurred her to audition.
“I think it was just a lot of my friends and family always suggesting to go on the show, but it was never really in my book to do it,” Sinclair said.
“I thought I might as well just try and see what comes of it.”
She said she wanted to garner more support for her music and band, Say My Name.
“The experience on The Voice has been amazing,” Sinclair said.
“It’s better than what I expected. I feel so comfortable with the team and the other artists. The journey is really overwhelming, but I can’t wait until the end.”
Sinclair’s musical influences range from psychedelic rock to jazz, big band and country.
“I don’t believe in listening to one particular genre of music,” she said.
In her hometown, Sinclair has embraced the Tamworth Country Music Festival, including busking in Peel St.
“I love the environment of being in the street with a million other performers just trying to make some cash and sell some CDs,” she said.
“It’s very comforting doing it in my hometown, too, because I’d be standing there in the street and see some friends or people I know go past and they would drop some coins in.”
The rest of The Voice journey awaits the young artist who said her family was excited she was part of the experience.
“I want to show them how much I’ve grown and improved and thank them for helping me along,” she said.
Off air, Say My Name has released the single, Good Intentions, and shot a music video, and they are writing their next single.
Sinclair said they planned to release an album within two years.
