The Scorpions go into the deferred match sitting seventh on the Northern Inland Football Premier League first grade table with three points.
The Joe Campbell-coached side has won just one of its three McDonalds-sponsored PL games this season.
They were to have played arch-rivals North Armidale Redmen last Saturday but the Redmen played, and defeated Tuncurry Forster 2-nil in their Westfields FFA Cup knockout match at Doody Park.
Goals to Liam Georkas and James Birmingham earned the Redmen a berth in the regional finals in Newcastle in mid-June.
That Souths were in the same position last year had the club greatly excited.
However tonight the Scorpions face a North Armidale side which has won all three PL games this season and is travelling along nicely.
They have scored 24 goals in those three PL wins without conceding one and a win would enable the Redmen to join East Armidale at the top of the PL table.
East have won all four games so far following their 3-nil win over Moree FC on the weekend.
While the Redmen have been soaring with the three PL victories and FFA Cup successes, skipper Mitch Wilson is more than wary of tonight’s game.
“It’s always a tough game against them,” he said of the South Scorpions.
“They always put up a tough fight. It’s going to be a challenge.”
With second grade kicking off at 6pm and first grade at 8pm, it makes it a “cold night”, Wilson said.
Tonight’s match also represents the start of a challenging run for the Redmen.
“We’ve had some pretty good wins so far but haven’t really been tested yet.
“We have had a few easy games (in the PL) and have a few tough games coming up.”
