A jury found Reginald John Butler and Todd Leonard Cryer guilty of robbery in company after an incident in Campbell Park, Inverell, on May 25, 2015.

The pair pleaded not guilty to the charge in Armidale District Court earlier this month, before a jury was empanelled to hear the case.

The court was told the pair were known to the victim and each had an association with a local youth support organisation in Inverell, and met at a gathering on the riverbank at the park.

The Crown had maintained during the course of the gathering, where the accused consumed alcohol, they assaulted the 40-year-old victim and robbed him of cash and a tobacco pouch.

The Crown had argued the pair were acting as a joint enterprise when the robbery occurred.

Butler and Cryer were arrested by police in the Inverell CBD about an hour after the robbery.

The trial, before Judge Deborah Payne, spanned more than a week and heard from the victim, as well as several witnesses.

The 12-member jury took less than a day of deliberations before they returned a guilty verdict on the single charge for both men.

Following the verdict, Cryer’s bail was immediately revoked by Judge Payne after an application by the Crown.

Butler, who has been in custody since his arrest, was also refused bail ahead of sentencing in a Sydney court later this year.
