Samuel Glen Tighe is facing 22 fraud, stealing, break-in, goods in custody and trespass charges, after he was intercepted in a car on Goonoo Goonoo Rd, South Tamworth, in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police allege Tighe had just used a stolen debit card at a service station when he was stopped in a car by patrolling police.
He was also allegedly in possession of housebreaking implements and a knife.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and questioned in connection to several incidents. Tighe was then charged with 22 separate offences, including allegedly breaking into homes in South Tamworth last week.
Tighe had also been wanted by police in connection to a series of alleged incidents in and around the Tamworth CBD, spanning much of April.
“They relate to a number of stealings from retail premises, where police allege handbags, wallets and credit cards were stolen and fraudulently used,” Acting Inspector Graeme Elms said.
“The alleged offences range between April 6 and Friday, April 29.”
Tighe fronted an out-of-sessions hearing in Tamworth Local Court late on Friday, where he lodged a bail application, but was denied release by the court.
The court found he was an unacceptable risk of failing to appear in court, committing a serious offence and endangering the safety of victims, individuals and the community.
Tighe was not required to enter pleas to the charges and was transported to the Tamworth Correctional Centre, where he was expected to be held in custody over the weekend, before returning to court this week.
