On Friday, a local nurse claimed she was approached by a man in an industrial estate at Westdale purporting to be from the service and selling raffle tickets.
The nurse became suspicious and contacted the rescue service, who confirmed the person of interest was a fraud.
A spokesperson for the service said similar reports of the man were received in Armidale recently.
“This person of interest says he is a part of the operational crew and talks about missions etcetera he has been on, and [that he has] helped a young boy bitten by a snake, but this is not the case,” a spokesperson said.
The incidents have been reported to police and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has urged anyone who sees the man claiming to be representing the helicopter to come forward.
“We ask if you are approached by or come across this person, if you could phone the helicopter base with information and a location, we can then pass it on to police,” a service spokesman said.
“We remind the community all volunteers representing Westpac Rescue Helicopter are supplied with the required credentials and uniform.”
