POLICE have confirmed the identity of bones found near Collarenebri last year.
However, the name of the deceased, believed to be Queensland truck driver James Douglas Whyte, who was 31 years old when he went missing in 2003, won't be revealed until after the case goes back to the coroner.
The bones, along with a few other items, were discovered by a farm worker in a paddock on a rural Collarenebri property on September 6 last year.
Walgett police crime manager Inspector Tony Mureau said a brief had been prepared for the coroner in regards to identification.
Inspector Chris Taylor said last year the items found with the bones pointed to a specific missing person.
The bones and items had to be sent to America for forensic testing, which took almost nine months.
Deputy state coroner Sharon Freund will finalise the identification of the remains.
