The New England and Oxley commands will roll out Operation Blueridge to police crowds at celebrations after official events across the region today.
New England Superintendent Fred Trench has confirmed extra general duties will be on patrol, backed by licencing officers as well as TAG police.
“By all means, raise a glass in memory of our fallen servicemen and women, but we also ask that you know your limits, drink responsibly and behave sensibly,” he said.
“Alcohol-fuelled violence and other anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and police will move swiftly to deal with anyone who is drinking to excess and causing trouble for others.”
Police are bracing for large crowds, with Anzac Day coinciding with a long weekend and the end of school holidays.
“This is a very important day for Australians, and police want Anzac Day to be enjoyable for everyone, particularly the ex-servicemen and women, their families and communities,” Oxley Superintendent Clint Pheeney said.
“A particular focus for local police will be ensuring people can commemorate Anzac Day without fear of being troubled by drunken or violent behaviour.”
As part of the police operation, police will also target drink driving with undercover cars set to bolster the marked fleet on the roads.
